Knit Tutorial - Simple Knit Decreases

Step by Step Guide

SSK - Slip slip knit

This creates a left leaning decrease.

  1. Slip the next stitch from left to right needle, by inserting the right needle into the loop from left to right (as if you wanted to knit it).

  2. Again, slip the next stitch from left to right needle, by inserting the right needle into the loop from left to right (as if you wanted to knit it).

  3. Insert the left needle into the front loops of the two slipped stitches from right to left.

  4. Wrap your yarn around the right needle and pull it through the two loops.

  5. Let the loops fall off the left needle.

K2togtbl - Knit 2 together through the back loop

This creates a very similar left leaning decrease to the ssk, but the front loop will have the twisted look.

  1. Insert the right needle into the back loops of the next two stitches on the left needle from right to left.

  2. Wrap the yarn around the needle and pull through both loops.

  3. Let the loops fall off the left needle.
