Knit Tutorial - Brioche 4 st decrease

This technique is a Brioche decrease, that decreases 5 stitches into one. This decrease is symmetrical, with the central stitch being the one that remains.

To work a Brioche 4 st decrease, or br4st dec, follow these instructions. I have broken them down by one individual action per line, as Brioche stitches can sometimes look overwhelming, when you first look at them.

  • slip 2 stiches individually knitwise (including the yarn over)

  • place the next stitch on the left needle including its yarn over on a cable needle and hold in front of the work

  • knit 1

  • lift the next stitch on the right needle over this stitch and drop the lifted stitch off the needle

  • transfer the knit stitch back to left needle

  • lift the next stitch on the left needle and its yarnover over this stitch and drop the lifted stitch off the needle

  • transfer the knit stitch to the right needle again

  • lift the next stitch and its yarnover over this stitch and drop the lifted st off the needle

  • place stitch from cable needle onto the left needle

  • transfer knit stitch from the right to the left needle

  • lift the stitch from the cable needle and its yarnover over this st and drop the lifted st off the needle

  • transfer the knit stitch back to the right needle to continue
